Hair Restoration

Did you know that we lose nearly 50% of our hair before noticing baldness? If your hair is not what it used to be, our hair restoration procedures can restore a natural hairline and add density to bald or thinning areas on your scalp. Androgenic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women, yet patterns of hair loss are often somewhat different between the sexes.

Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) therapy has been FDA approved and utilized for over 30 years for advanced wound healing in multiple areas of the human body. In the past few years, we have been seeing exciting results with PRP treatment for hair growth. A patient’s blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets to a specific concentration most effective for hair growth. The platelets are then activated and injected back into the scalp at the hair follicle level. This process stimulates the body’s own growth factors and stem cells to slow hair loss and reverse miniaturized hair to produce strong, visible hairs again. If used at the time of a hair transplant, it encourages faster graft growth. This has proven to be quite effective in both men and women.

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is derived from the patient’s own blood serum. The patient’s blood is placed in a centrifuge where each part of the blood is separated. The platelet rich plasma is isolated and used to inject into the patient’s scalp. This PRP therapy is rich in growth factors, multiple other wound healing and new hair follicle stimulating cells. PRP has long been used for enhanced wound healing and joint restoration but has now been found to actually stimulate new hair growth. This therapy can be used in conjunction with any surgical hair restoration procedure or alone for patients choosing not to have surgery. Non-surgically, several studies have shown increased hair density at 4 months lasting for approximately 11 months. Non-surgical injections of PRP are generally performed twice a year.
